(Jasper, Ga. – May 31, 2016)

To better prepare civilians for active shooter events, the Chattahoochee Technical College Police Department will be offering two free active shooter response training sessions on Saturday, June 4, at the college’s Appalachian Campus, located at 100 Campus Drive in Jasper.

Session one is from 10 a.m. to noon and the second session is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. All sessions will be held in the Grand Hall.

“As Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council-certified officers, campus police conduct force-on-force training twice a year. It is also imperative that civilians have a plan for surviving an active shooter event. The free active shooter training sessions being offered at the Appalachian Campus are designed to educate civilians on what they should do if faced with an active shooter event by providing strategies and guidance,” CTC Police Chief Charles Spann said.

The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of professional guardians, civilian response options, medical issues and drills.
