Chattahoochee Technical College financial aid administrators Vicki Ostean and Alexis Wallace have acquired a wealth of knowledge and resources after completing the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators New Aid Officers Workshop in Jacksonville, Ala., last month.
CTC Student Financial Services Executive Director Jody Darby, who is a former faculty member for the workshop and taught four previous summer classes, recommended the two financial aid administrators attend the weeklong training, which was designed to help participants find, renew and ignite their passions.
The purpose of SASFAA — an organization of more than 1,200 financial aid professionals working within Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia — is to promote the professional preparation of individuals within financial aid; to develop effective programs related to student financial aid; to facilitate communication between all interested parties within the financial aid community; and to continually evaluate and update services.
“I loved the friendliness of everyone there. There were people from all different areas with a willingness to help and be an encouragement,” Ostean said. “I could tell there was a lot of work and dedication in putting that event together.”
Participants of the workshop had a combined 160 years of financial aid experience.
“Everything was amazing and a wonderful experience,” Wallace said. “Whomever goes next year should bring lots of sunscreen and a big hat, but also remember that there will be a lot of information to absorb and a lot of fun.”
