Chattahoochee Tech Campus Police Officer Bobby “BJ” Grier received the Public Safety Officer of the Year award in Jasper on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The award was presented at a public safety appreciation dinner that was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Jasper and Georgia Mountains Hospice.
A Purple Heart recipient, Grier served for 32 years in the U.S. military, beginning with the U.S. Marines and multiple tours in Vietnam. He then served in both the U.S. Army as well as the U.S. Air Force. Upon retirement from his military career, Grier started his law enforcement career at the Atlanta Police Department. He later worked with both the Marietta Police Department and the Cobb County Police Department, retiring in 2010 as a Sergeant. In 2011, he began working as a Campus Police Officer at Chattahoochee Tech.
“With over 50 years in uniform, BJ continues to exhibit leadership and boost department morale. He is dedicated to his job, and it shows every single day,” said Chattahoochee Tech Director of Public Safety Tim Hilley. “He is a positive role model for faculty, staff and students.”
