The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation received a $7,700 donation from the Pickens Certified Literate Community Program (CLCP) on Friday, Dec. 20, in Jasper to establish two scholarships for Chattahoochee Tech Adult Education students in Pickens County.
“These scholarships will offer a wonderful opportunity for our students to work on their GED and get real-life job training at the very same time,” said Chattahoochee Tech Director of Adult Education Chris Hord. “We are very grateful for this support from the Pickens CLCP.”
The mission of Pickens CLCP is to support Pickens County adults in high school equivalency, workforce development, and post-secondary education, according to Amy Denney, the Associate Director of Adult Education at Chattahoochee Tech. Denny also serves as Director of the Pickens CLCP. Included among the Pickens CLCP board members who gathered for the scholarship donation presentation at the Chattahoochee Tech Appalachian Campus were Pickens CLCP Board Chair Paul Nealey, Vice Chair Jon Collins, Treasurer Kim Southern, Rob Jones, Gerri Sauer and Destini Shope. Also participating in this presentation were Chattahoochee Tech Director of Advancement Stephanie Hubbell and Chattahoochee Tech Advancement Coordinator Amanda Henderson.
The scholarships established through the Chattahoochee Tech Foundation by the Pickens CLCP donation will be awarded in January 2020, during the Adult Education program’s winter program, according to Hord. The students who will be selected to receive the scholarships must be residents of Pickens County who are currently enrolled in the college’s Adult Education program. These students also must enroll in an Integrated Education and Training (IET) program, which helps provide workforce training and workforce preparation activities.
