(Marietta, Ga. – Aug. 19, 2013) A new semester and school year got off to a rainy start Monday at Chattahoochee Technical College. Georgia’s largest technical college begins classes on August 19 with changes for the new semester with approximately 10,700 students of which more than 3,100 were new.

“This is always an exciting time of year,” said Chattahoochee Technical College President Ron Newcomb. “We have new programs beginning and new students joining us for the first time. We also welcome back students who are finishing their degrees, diplomas and certificates this year and are eager to help them start or continue their careers.”

More than 10,700 students were registered for classes on the first day – down slightly from last year’s enrollment numbers. The college’s Marietta and North Metro campuses remain the top two physical options for students with 70 percent of students taking at least one class at one of the two campuses. Online classes also continue to grow in popularity with 40 percent of students taking at least one online class. Almost 1,100 students are exclusively registered for online classes this term.

With renovations slated to begin at the college’s Woodstock Campus, students are flocking to the Canton Campus, which topped 1,000 students this semester, and the nearby North Metro Campus in Acworth. Renovations are expected to be complete in late 2014. Also new for the Fall Semester are more than 20 students at the recently opened Bartow County College and Career Academy who will be receiving both high school and college credit for classes they take this semester.
