Five Students From Chattahoochee Tech Compete in State Competition for PBL

(Marietta, Ga. – April 15, 2013) Five students attended the 2013 PBL State Leadership Conference at the Westin Atlanta Hotel on April 12-14, 2013. Many students from two-year and four-year colleges attended the conference, with over 350 competing in events. Waymon Carr received third place in Hospitality Management. Jeff Mathis received a $250 Mary Louise Herr Scholarship for local participation, PBL-related honors and grade-point average, as well as being nominated to Who’s Who in Phi Beta Lambda. Carr, Mathis and Sabrenn Francis received recognition for achieving the Director’s Level of CMAP-Career and Membership Achievement Program. CTC Instructor Nathan Akins was recognized for five years of service to Phi Beta Lambda.

Jeff Mathis of Dallas – Impromptu Speaking and Business Presentation
Sabrenn Francis of Marietta – Computer Concepts and Word Processing
Jennifer Le-Roy of Ball Ground – Accounting Principles and Management Concepts
Crystal Francis of Marietta – Computer Concepts and Cyber Security

Phi Beta Lambda, a division of Future Business Leaders of America, also hosts annual state and national competitions that recognize and reward excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Through state-based competition at the spring State Leadership Conferences, students compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills. Top state winners then are eligible to compete for honors at the National Leadership Conference each summer.

The Georgia PBL State Leadership Conference showcases students competing in business related leadership events including impromptu speaking, future business executive, job interviewing, public speaking and sales presentations. Other competition areas covered topics consisting of principles of accounting for professionals, computer applications, business communication, business decision making, financial services, hospitality management, human resource management and network design.
